The mango motif in India has both Indian roots and Persian influence through the evolution of the paisley form, it is also an auspicious motif in south asian decorative and ritual arts, often associated with abundance, fertility and divine blessings. Small boxes of this type were traditionally used for kumkum, sindoor, ritual powder or other small precious contents.
It has a beautiful aged surface with soft oxidation, minor wear and a delicate hand-finished quality. A beautiful object to place on your dresser or bed-side table.
